A news station reported the other day that there was an attack on a church of people who follow the teachings of Muhammad. They were tragically murdered while worshiping by people who did not like them or who they worshiped. Then it was reported that a church whose members follow the teachings of Jesus Christ was burned down with people inside while they were worshiping. Two sad stories. Acts of hatred by those who feel that the ones inside had no right to worship because the object of their faith was wrong. The attackers felt that they were “doing God’s will” by killing those who don’t believe like they do.
I wonder how many people who call themselves lovers of God are themselves following their own made up version of God?
The Bible teaches that God created two perfect human beings, a man and a woman, and gave them a perfect place to live. He created them to love and worship Him. They had everything they could ever ask for. However, God did not want “robots” who were “forced” to love Him, so He gave them a choice. Choose to love Him and obey His Laws because He loved them and knew what was best for them, or choose to go their own way and trust themselves. That choice came in the form of a tree. (Yes, a tree) God said they could eat from any of the trees in the Garden except one. He promised that if they chose to eat from the forbidden tree they would surely die.
We don’t really know how long the two basked in the loving kindness of their Creator in that beautiful Garden, but after awhile The Enemy of God convinced them that God really didn’t know what he was talking about and that they would NOT die. The two decided that they knew better than God did, so they believed a lie from the Enemy and ate from the forbidden tree. Immediately after eating from that tree, everything changed. Exactly what God said would happen happened. Sin and Death came into the perfect world He had created for them. Their choice to disobey God brought sin and death to every person born after them. (Romans 5:12)
Thankfully, God had a plan to restore us and His Creation to Himself. He made a Way for ANY person who chooses HIM to be free from death- which is eternal separation from Him in Hell forever. (John 3:16) God invites ANY person, regardless of race or religion to come to HIM, through His Son, for Eternal Salvation. He offers Eternal LIFE, not Eternal DEATH.
It is interesting to note, however, that this offer of Salvation won’t last forever. The Time of His Return is closer than you or I think and that is why He is waiting. Waiting for everyone to come to Him before it is too late. He promises to save those who trust in Him.
What say you? Who do you trust? Who or what is the object of Your Faith? Have you chosen to believe in the One who gave everything so that you could live with Him forever? If not, why not?
