Amen for America!

Among These Are Life

For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to Him, and to keep His commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess. Deuteronomy 30:16

Recently I was reading  As It Happened- Through The Bible in One Year on the You Version App. I’m in the book of Judges. In case you aren’t familiar with the book of Judges, it details the history of the nation of Israel after they entered the Promised Land and what took place after Joshua, their leader, died. Before Joshua died, he reminded the people that they were to continue obeying God and His Laws once Joshua was gone. Joshua warned the people not to follow the false gods of the surrounding countries and to keep the commandments of God. Then God would protect them from their enemies. Although the people agreed to follow the Lord after Joshua died, they did not. Judges describes a repeating pattern of how the Israelites willfully disobeyed God Who then would allow the surrounding nations to overtake the Israelites and subdue them. The Israelites would then cry out to God for deliverance and God would raise up a Judge to lead the people to victory. The people would obey the Lord and have relief from their enemies as long as that Judge was living, but when that Judge died, the Israelites would once again return to doing evil in the Lords sight and as a result the whole cycle would start all over again.

Reading Judges made me think of America and the current state of affairs. I heard on the news that there are some states that are allowing a baby’s life to be terminated UP UNTIL THE TIME OF DELIVERY! My heart sank as I thought of the repercussions of such an evil deed.  I wondered how long Almighty God, the Giver of Life, will allow this to continue. Some might say “how could God allow this?” My question would be “how LONG will God allow this blatant disrespect for Life until America reaps what it has sown?”

The book of Judges is a pretty bloody book. The people said that they would follow God but when push came to shove they did not. They had no one to blame but themselves. This downward spiral of disobedience never ended well, but I find it amazing that when God’s people finally cried out to Him-

 He responded. Every time.

How do you think we got to this place in America?

Do you think we can turn back to honoring God who so lavishly shed His Grace on us? Why or why not?

What do you think will be the consequences (if any) in America if we continue to disobey God’s Laws and take the lives of the innocent among us?
