Mother’s Day Thoughts For Moms

For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be a mom. I remember telling my mom when I was about 8 or 9 that I wouldn’t mind it if someone left a baby on my doorstep! She said “Who would watch the baby when you are at school?” I said, “Well, you!”

I’ve found motherhood to be such a blessing. I can’t imagine my life without my children. Each one special and unique with God-given talents to be used for His Glory and purpose. It’s a Love that cannot be expressed with mere words. Even now that they’re grown, my love for them still grows.

Motherhood is indeed a blessing, but it is also WORK. Not only physically but mentally and spiritually too.

As Moms we have the tendency toward being givers. We give and give and give to our families, sometimes to the detriment of ourselves. That’s what moms do we tell ourselves and we keep giving. But is that really good? Think about it in monetary terms. Just as you cannot keep spending money without having an incoming source (because that causes debt) you cannot keep giving of yourself without also receiving FOR yourself. You must take care of YOU. The right foods, of course, and exercise to keep your body functioning well, but of great importance is your spiritual side as well. There must be daily time with God and His Word as you as you raise your children. Even 10 or 15 minutes every day. Easy to say, right? But where do you find the time?

Make time.

Whether it is a Bible on CD that you listen to in the car or a daily devotion book you follow, just do it. God will honor His promise to get you through the day. I’ve found that when I’ve focused on spending regular daily time in God’s Word, my days just went better.
And on the days that didn’t go so well, by God’s grace, I had the strength to keep going and learn from those “bad” days. Don’t give up on feeding YOURSELF on God’s Word every day, but
beware! The Enemy is trying to distract you. He doesn’t want you spending time with your Creator because he knows there is POWER in the Word of God for YOUR spirit.

Take hold of that power every day to the best of your ability and see what happens. God is amazing!

For the Word of God is ALIVE and POWERFUL. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between the soul and the spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Hebrews 4:12

    My mom worked in the foundry during the ww2. She would come home and cook or her 5 children. Our dad had left when I was 5yrs. old. But embedded in in my mind, is seeing my mother, on her knees, praying before she got into bed.
    I must confess, I really didn’t appreciate the cost and commitment she was making at the time. But I am the man I am because of the unconditional love she had for us.

    1. What a wonderful story of a praying mom! She was dealt an awful blow when her husband abandoned her and you and your siblings but she did not let that stop her from having a relationship with God. And He certainly did provide and take care of you guys, didn’t He?
