Often times we don’t know what we think we know.
God once used a situation in my life to bring about powerful imagery regarding judging those around us.

I knew of a lady at a church we had just started attending who had an abundance of tattoos. From what I knew of her she did have a “high energetic” personality that could be a bit abrasive at times, but I liked her. On the few occasions when I did interact with her she seemed genuine in her love for Christ and it was refreshing. However, when I heard comments like “don’t you think someone with that many tattoos is starved for attention?” I just shrugged my shoulders because I really didn’t know her.

Then one Sunday we were both scheduled to serve in the same place at the same time. Divine scheduling, I say, because I learned that before she became a follower of Jesus, she was very, very depressed. She felt so bad about herself and was so low in spirit that she purposely used to take a knife and cut her arms and body! This cutting resulted in horrific scars. She said that when she accepted the Love of Christ into her heart (John 3:16) and believed He loved her and that He had a plan for her life, the cutting stopped. She said she had never felt so loved and accepted and that knowing Jesus personally had changed her life forever. She said that one by one she got Christian tattoos over each of those scars. One tattoo showed a bird being released from a cage, I think.
By the time she was done with her story I could feel tears filling up my eyes and my heart cried out
“Lord please help me to look beyond the outward appearance and see each person I meet as a soul You died for.” Jesus covered up each one of those scars that had disfigured her body and made her feel so ashamed and unloved. Praise the Lord for tattoos.

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

Why do we often times judge someone by what they look like?

How can we as followers of Christ show love to those who may not look or dress like us?

Why should we leave the judging to God?

    1. I use my phone to record thoughts throughout the days So that when I do go to sit down and write I have something to work with. Ask God to help you too! Seriously
