Amen for America!

Don’t Judge Me

Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.” 2 Chronicles 19:7

It’s troubling to see America, the land recognized worldwide as the beacon of personal freedoms, descending down the dreadful road back to slavery.

There was a news report about a Christian pastor who refused to officiate the marriage of two men. This pastor believes what God says in the Bible regarding homosexuality. He believes homosexual behavior is sin, and not God’s original design, so he declined to officiate at that ceremony. Because of his refusal, he is called a “judgmental hypocrite” and the reporter happily interviews those with differing beliefs. Some label him an “unloving Christian”. Others say he has to “learn to love”, and “It’s following Jesus’ example of love to love.” “That’s just how they’re born” were also some of the comments in the report. The shock came when it was revealed that those comments came from those who claim to be Christians and follow the Christ of the Bible! These are the non-judgmental Christians. These are the enlightened ones.

Yet aren’t those calling him a judgmental hypocrite being judgmental themselves? Do they know the definition of a hypocrite?

A hypocrite is someone who says He believes in something but does not act like he believes it. This pastor is standing for what he believes in, yet he is being “chained and whipped” to the pole of political correctness by those who disagree with his beliefs and speech. He’s “forced” to keep his speech quiet and it is becoming a shocking reality that he can be “legally forced” to do something he honestly disagrees with or else he faces fines and/or imprisonment. It is also totally possible that he and/or his family may actually be physically harmed by those who oppose his personal beliefs! Free speech indeed! Sounds more like free slavery. Think how “we” think or else. Say what you think the way “we” want you to say it, or else. Keep your mouth shut and don’t judge! Only God can judge. (By the way, who is the “We” that seems to be intent on dividing and destroying this free nation won with painstaking effort and immeasurable cost? )

One of the first things the Founders of this Nation enacted through the Bill of Rights was to proclaim freedom of speech of utmost importance. Freedom of religion was paramount, of course, but the Bill of Rights guaranteed each citizen the freedom to express what he/she believed – even if those expressions and beliefs were different or disagreed with another citizen or the government. It gave each citizen the right to express themselves without governmental punishment. The Constitution of our government states that we are to respect each other’s right to speak what he or she believes. Freedom of speech is foundational to America’s liberty.

What was the purpose in making free speech a priority when deciding how a free nation is to be run? What do you think could happen if we lose our freedom to express our beliefs? Why are some believers afraid to speak what they believe publicly?

Author’s note: The grievous, evil sin of forced slavery in America became unlawful through a Civil War that claimed the lives of thousands and thousands of black, brown and white skinned people. People who were willing to stand up and fight for what was right. even if it meant losing their life. This post in no way minimizes what those who were enslaved went through. The slavery analogy in this post is a way to help readers understand what is meant with the author’s word pictures. Why would anyone want to go back to that time in our History?

  1. Christians need to stand up for what is right, for what God’s word says. We do not need to be silent just so we don’t offend anyone. Truth is truth and God’s word is very clear. I pray more and more Christians use their God given free speech and stand on the truth, and not be afraid of what the world thinks of us. “Political correctness” can definitely be a form of slavery!

    Amazing points!
