The Liberty Bell
July 8, 1776, in Philadelphia, Colonel John Nixon rings the Liberty Bell from the tower of the Pennsylvania State House (now known as Independence Hall), calling all citizens to the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence.
The ringing of the bell announced that a new nation had been born. A nation where men and women would be free to live free and thrive and worship peaceably as they chose. Although the country would face major struggles in the years that followed, the Liberty Bell would eventually even be used as an icon in the fight to end slavery in the United States.
In 1623, one hundred and fifty three years prior to the first official ringing of the Liberty Bell, it was written in the Constitution of the New England Confederation “ Whereas we all come into these parts of America with one and the same end and aim, namely to advance the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ and to enjoy the Liberties of the Gospel in purity and peace.”
America was to be a shining light to the other nations as a testament to God and His Grace that was shed on a Nation that acknowledged and honored Him.
